Below are some of the questions we may need to discuss with you, and you may want to take some time to think them over before we meet. Don't worry if you don't know the answers, we're here to help guide you through it.

1. Web Site Purpose

What is your primary goal for your Web site?
Why do you even want a Web site, anyway? You may have a broad purpose in mind, such as making a favorable impression on potential customers, or a specific objective, such as generating 20 sales prospects per day. Starting with a goal in mind will enable us to know whether your Web site is a success, and whether your investment has been worthwhile.

2. Web Site Features

Think about the pages you'd like to see on your Web site.
Products and Services
  • How many products/services do you have? If you have many products, or if your customers need to search, sort, and compare products, it may be best to store your products in a database.
  • How will you provide the pictures, text, and specifications for your products? For example, do you need to have your products photographed, do you need photos scanned, etc.?
  • Do you want to enter the products into your Web site initially yourself, or have this done for you?
  • How often do your products, descriptions or prices change? Yearly, monthly, daily, hourly?
  • How do you want your products to be updated? Do you want the ability to manage products online yourself, or do you want this to be done for you?
Company Information
What background information will you provide? An "About Us" section gives you an opportunity to establish credibility with your customer. You may want to include company history, introduce key members of your company, explain your vision or what makes you unique, and list skills, experience, certification, or training that makes you the best choice.
Contact Information
  • What ways do you want to provide for customers to reach you? Email, telephone, fax, postal address, driving directions, and maps are useful.
  • You may also want to provide a form to gather more information, or direct inquiries more efficiently.
  • Who in your company will be responsible for responding to inquiries from the Web site?
Customer Service
What options can you provide to provide more efficient customer service? Examples are warranty claim forms and instructions.
Administrative Functions
This is an area that is not accessible by the general public, but requires a password and is used only by you to perform updates to your site.

3. Shopping and E-Commerce

If you don't plan for customers to actually place an order or make a purchase on your Web site, skip this part.
What payment options do you want to make available?
Customers like the convenience of completing a transaction immediately with a credit card, but if this isn't feasible you can require customers to call you to pay with a credit card, or even mail a check or money order.
If making online transactions, what credit card processor will you use?
We can explain the options available with VeriSign, Authorize.net, PayPal, and others. If you already have a merchant account, check with your provider to find out if you can accept Internet transactions, and what rates and fees apply.
Will you make international sales?
Are there import/export issues?
How will you calculate tax and shipping?
For most products, you will need to charge tax in your home state. Shipping may be calculated per product, by weight, or by cost.
What are your policies?
You will need to make your policies available to customers, including your Web site terms of use, delivery and return policy, and privacy policy.
What sort of sales, discounts, or specials will you offer?
